The Omega range of connectors from PDM offer the very best design features
combining electro-optic flexibility, performance and reliability.
With demands for increased speed & bandwidth and reduced optical power,
the low loss Omega underwater connectors offer an optimal solution, using
well proven self aligning ceramic fibre optic components.
The connectors can be produced with combinations of fibre and electrical
contacts. The components can accommodate singlemode and multimode fibre ranging
from 9/125 to 62.5/125 micron. The standard electrical contacts are 16AWG
rated at 600VDC and 12A. The Omega range is offered in 8 shell sizes and
can be configured from 1 to 20 contacts.
The standard Omega body material is 316 stainless steel and the connectors
are rated for operation up to 5000m mated and 4000m bulkhead open face. Higher
pressure ratings are available.
PDM has extensive experience in connector
termination and moulding. The Omega connectors can be terminated by PDM to
customer specification or supplied for client termination.
The Omega range of dry mateable connectors has seen extensive use in defence
projects including the UK SSTD system and towed arrays. In the commercial
field, areas of application include communications and ROVs.
Although there is an established standard range of Omega connectors, PDM
excel in the design and manufacture of specials for customers. They have
many years experience in working closely and successfully with clients. Please
contact PDM to discuss your detailed requirement without obligation.

Fibre Optic Penetrators

The penetrator is a reliable low loss method of linking fibre optic assemblies.
This is because it has a minimum number of components and optical interfaces.
Due to its inherent simplicity it is also one of the most cost effective
interconnection products. The PDM fibre optic underwater penetrator can also
offer the advantage of full waterblocking so even if the in-water section
of the cable is damaged the water will not penetrate the connected equipment.
PDM can also supply hybrid penetrators with fibre optic & electrical
cores in one unit. These products can be tailored to a client's specific
requirements.
