PDM Expand Fibre Optic Connector Range
PDM enjoyed another successful DSEi
Exhibition in September with visits from well established and potentially
new customers from the UK and overseas. The area of most interest was in
the recently expanded range of low loss underwater fibre optic connectors
which were featured on the PDM stand.
If you are interested in this fibre optic product range, the hybrid options,
or in any other services from PDM we will be delighted to discuss your
requirements. Please contact us for further information -

Ocean Business 2007
PDM Neptec exhibited at the recent,
and very successful, Ocean Business 2007 exhibition held at the National
Oceanography Centre, Southampton. Ocean Business 2007 was launched this year
but despite being a new event, was well supported with many key decision
makers from the oceanography industry being present. PDM Neptec capitalised
on this and the stand was kept busy with visits from existing and potential
customers.
Most of those visiting the stand came from the UK but there were also some
from overseas including Turkey, Italy, France, and Ireland. As with most
exhibitions, many of the other exhibitors were existing or potential PDM
customers, and visiting their stands was a great way to quickly touch-base
with current contacts and forge links with prospective clients.
Being aimed at the oceanography market, most visitors were interested in
PDM Neptec's electrical and fibre optic connectors. Other areas of interest
included polyurethane moulding material and cable splicing.
If you made it to the show and visited our stand then thanks again for your
time; if you didn't get to see us, please do contact us and we'll be delighted
to discuss your requirements.
PEEK Connectors
A solution to connector delamination
issues
Under certain extreme conditions bond
delamination can occur at the interface between a polyurethane moulding and
metallic connectors. This has long been a major issue within our industry
with potentially significant system reliability implications. It has proven
to be a very difficult factor for connector and harness suppliers like PDM
who have no influence over the service conditions of assemblies such as the
proximity to system protective anodes.
A solution to this issue adopted by the US military has been the use of ceramic
non conductive coatings applied to the connectors but this is a very expensive
solution available from a limited number of suppliers and which still relies
on a metallic bond interface.
PDM have addressed this issue by adapting the very popular and versatile
MHD range of Impulse connectors and can now offer them with a non-metallic
PEEK (polyetheretherketone) body hence eliminating any metallic bond interface
and effectively preventing any delamination failure. The connector retains
its robust metal engaging nut. The MHD connector series is available in 5
shell sizes with up to 78 contacts with conventional and inverted options.
If this solution is relevant to your application and you would like more
details, please contact PDM on 01420 85848 or at sales@pdmnepetec.com.
Type 45 Launch 2006
HMS Daring, the first of the Royal
Navy's new Type 45 destroyers, was officially launched early this year
by the Countess of Wessex at BAE Systems' Scotstoun shipyard in
Glasgow.
HMS Daring will be equipped with a state of the art air defence system which
will be able to track and destroy a target the size of a cricket ball travelling
three times the speed of sound - a quantum leap forward in capability for
the Royal Navy. Over 150m long, weighing over 7,000 tonnes with a crew of
190 and a range of 7000 nautical miles, she, and the rest of the Type 45 destroyers,
are designed using cutting edge technology to be flexible multi-role vessels
able to carry out a variety of tasks across the globe, from their primary
air defence role to humanitarian and anti-smuggling roles.
PDM is proud to be associated with the Type 45 project in the supply of a
significant number of cable assemblies and connectors.
PDM is supplying interface connectors for the array transducers, multiway
bulkhead connectors for hull penetration and a large number of interconnection
cables on the wet and dry side of the ship's hull.
This project is very significant to PDM and together with the steady growth
of MOD work over the past three to four years, demonstrates the ability of
the company to successfully supply the MOD on major projects.
