PDM has addressed the need for a portable high performance field moulding system with
the Quickcure Moulding System (QMS). The System uses a temperature controlled
mould heater (Quickcure Mould Heater [QMH]) and specially selected polyurethane
elastomer packs.
The key factor with the QMS is the heat provided by the QMH which dramatically
cuts the moulding time compared to moulding at ambient temperatures. A
temperature of about 60°C is thermostatically maintained by the aluminium
mechanical interface and this introduces heat into the aluminium mould tools.
Thanks to the standard design of the mechanical interface the unit can accept
various mould tools machined so as to produce cable joints of different
sizes.
Mould tools are often an engineering challenge in themselves, especially
when varying shrinkage allowances have to be made for different sections.
PDM has developed a range of mould tools which it offers depending upon the
client's exact requirements.
Two QMH versions are available - the 1-slot and the 4-slot.
With the 4-slot version, any number of slots can be used simultaneously and
any number of different mould tools can occupy the slots. With the 4-slots
being in transverse orientation, the 4-slot QMH is ideal for producing a
number of small mouldings simultaneously. The 1-slot QMH has been developed
for longer mouldings.
The QMS measures 450mm*150mm*120mm and weighs approximately 10kg.
The QMH is CE marked with full RoHS compliance and PDM is registered as
a EEE producer with an Environment Agency approved scheme.
The QMH is available in 110V AC and 220V AC versions and is supplied
with:
-
power lead
-
mould tool separator
-
mould tool separating wedge
-
aluminium flight case with pre-cut
protective internal foam padding
In addition to packs of polyurethane
elastomers, PDM's mould release agent, MR512, is also available. MR-512
is a silicon-based product and is used with the mould tools to ease the removal
of the cured moulding. So as to prepare the area to be overmoulded and ensure
a good bond to the polyurethane elastomer, PDM offers various primers for
the most common substrate materials.
For more information about PDM's range of polyurethane elastomers, primers
and release agent, please see the Elastomers webpage.
PDM Neptec's Quickcure Moulding System is being used within the following
industries to produce high-quality mouldings with a fast turn-around:
-
seismic and geophysical oil and gas
exploration
-
oceanographic instrumentation
production
-
seismic surveying for civil construction
projects
-
marine research
-
production of fish farming products
